Merge PDFs

Add two or more PDFs, put the pages in order, and download one file.

Free online PDF tools that keep your files private

Hostavix PDF Tools is a free set of tools to sign a PDF, fill in PDF forms, merge PDF files, split a PDF, reorder and delete pages, rotate pages, convert a PDF to text or Word, convert images or text to PDF, and password-protect a PDF. It works directly in your web browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, iPhone, iPad and Android, with no sign-up, no watermark, and no software to install. Unlike most online PDF editors, your documents are never uploaded to a server: every file is opened, changed and saved on your own device, so contracts, invoices, IDs and medical letters stay private.

One editor for every PDF job

Open a PDF from any of the tools and it opens in the same editor, with every tool beside it: fill in, sign, pages, split, text and password. Each one works on the same document, so you can fill in a form, sign it, turn a sideways page, remove a blank one, add another PDF to the end and lock it with a password — then download it all as one file. Only Images → PDF and Text → PDF have their own page, because they start from something that is not a PDF yet.

How to merge PDF files into one

Open the Merge PDFs tab and add two or more PDF files, either by dragging them onto the page or with Choose PDFs. Each file appears with a preview of its first page, its page count and its size. Drag the files into the order you want — or use the arrows under each one on a phone — and select Merge and download. You get a single combined PDF, called merged.pdf, with every page of every file in that order.

Merging copies the original pages rather than re-printing them, so text stays sharp and searchable, links keep working, and images are not compressed a second time. It is a quick way to combine scanned receipts for an expense report, join a quote with its terms and conditions, or put a whole application pack into one attachment.

How to split a PDF and extract pages

The Split PDF tab offers four ways to break a document apart. Every page saves each page as its own PDF. Pick pages lets you click the pages you want and saves them as one new PDF — the simplest way to extract pages from a PDF. Page ranges takes a list such as 1-3, 5, 8-10 and creates one file per range. Every N pages cuts a long document into equal parts, for example a stack of scanned two-page forms. When the result is more than one file, the PDFs are downloaded together in a single ZIP.

How to reorder or delete PDF pages

Use the Reorder pages tab to rearrange PDF pages. Every page is shown as a thumbnail; drag a page to a new position, use its arrows, or remove a page with the × button. Reverse order flips a document that was scanned back to front, and Restore original undoes every change. When the pages are in the right order, download the reordered PDF.

How to rotate PDF pages

Scanned documents and phone captures often come out sideways or upside down. In the Rotate pages tab, click any page to turn it 90 degrees clockwise, use the left and right buttons on each page, or rotate all pages at once. The rotation is saved in the PDF itself, so the pages open the right way up in every PDF reader, on every device, without any loss of quality.

How to convert images to PDF

The Images → PDF tab turns photos, scans and screenshots into a PDF, one image per page. It accepts JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP and AVIF images. Choose a page size — the same size as the image, A4 or US Letter — an orientation, and a margin, then drag the images into order and select Create PDF. JPG and PNG images are placed in the PDF without being re-compressed, and photos taken on a phone are turned upright automatically. It is an easy way to make a PDF from receipts, signed paper forms, whiteboard photos or a portfolio.

How to sign a PDF online for free

Open the Sign PDF tab and add the document you need to sign. Select Create signature and choose how to make it: draw your signature with a mouse, trackpad, finger or stylus; type your name and pick one of six handwriting styles; or upload a photo or scan of your signature on paper. For an uploaded signature, the background removal takes away the white paper and shadows so only the ink is left, and a strength slider handles greyer photos. Choose the ink colour — black, blue, red, green or any colour you like.

Click a signature to place it on the page you are looking at, or drag it straight onto any page. Drag it into position, even across to another page, resize it from any corner, change its colour, duplicate it for initials on every page, or delete it. You can also add text such as your name, title or initials, and add today's date in one click. When everything is in place, download the signed PDF. Your signature is drawn into the PDF itself, so it looks the same in every PDF reader and when the document is printed.

Nothing about your signature is uploaded. If you want, tick Remember this signature on this device and it will be ready the next time you open the page in the same browser; leave it unticked and it disappears when you close the tab. This kind of signature is an image of your handwriting, which is how most everyday documents — leases, permission slips, delivery notes, quotes and HR forms — are signed. It is not a certificate-based digital signature.

How to fill in a PDF form online

Open the Fill in a PDF tab and add the form. If the PDF has its own form fields, they are shaded on the pages: type into the text boxes, tick the check boxes, choose the radio buttons and pick from the drop-down lists. Many forms are just scans or printed pages with no fields at all; for those, pick Text, Tick or Cross and click anywhere on a page to put it there. Drag the handle beside an item to move it, and change its size and colour from the panel. Text can be in any Latin, Greek or Cyrillic alphabet.

When you download, the answers in the form's own fields are saved into those fields, so the PDF stays a working form that can still be changed — or tick Lock the answers to make them part of the page. Text and marks you placed yourself are drawn onto the page, so they look the same in every PDF reader and on paper.

How to convert a PDF to text or Word

The PDF → Text tab takes the text out of a PDF, page by page, with the lines and paragraphs as they are on the page. Correct anything you like in the box, then download it as a plain text file or as a Word document (.docx), or copy it. Mark where each page starts adds a heading for every page, and in the Word document each page of the PDF starts a new page. A scanned PDF is a picture of the text, so it has no text to take out.

How to convert text to PDF

In the Text → PDF tab, type or paste your text, or open a .txt file. Add a title if you want one, choose A4 or US Letter, the text size and the margins, and select Create PDF. The lines are wrapped to the page and continue onto as many pages as they need. The text stays real text in the PDF, so it can be searched and copied.

How to password-protect a PDF

Open the Lock with password tab, add the PDF and type the password twice. You can also decide whether people who open it may print it, copy its text, or change it, and set a separate permissions password that lifts those limits. The locked copy is encrypted with AES-256, the strongest encryption a PDF can have, and opens in Adobe Acrobat, Preview, Chrome, Edge and every other current PDF reader once the password is entered. Keep the password safe: there is no way to recover a forgotten one.

Private by design: nothing is uploaded

Most free PDF websites send your document to their servers to process it. These tools do the work with JavaScript in the page you are reading, so your files never leave your computer or phone and there is nothing to delete afterwards. Once the page has loaded it does not need the internet to work — Fill in and Text → PDF fetch their font the first time they write text. The document you are working on is kept in your browser, on this device only, so a reload or a closed tab does not lose your work; Start over removes it. There are no file count limits and no daily quotas; the only limit is your device's memory, which comfortably handles documents with hundreds of pages.

Hostavix hosts websites for small businesses. These PDF tools are free forever, alongside our free QR code generator, image editor and SEO check.
